A BARRY sportsman with intellectual learning disabilities has been chosen to represent Great Britain at prestigious World Games in Los Angeles 2015.

James Savory, of Barry, has been selected by Special Olympics Great Britain to take part in the sprint kayaking event.

Wales has seven athletes and two coaches and Angela Frayling, of Sully, will be one of the sprint kayaking coaches.

Jeff Savory, of Special Olympics Wales, said that this would be great experience and opportunity for these athletes who live and train in Wales.

To qualify the athletes travelled around Great Britain throughout 2012-13.

Jeff said: “Having been to several World Games myself I know that these athletes will have an experience of a lifetime and will be great ambassadors for Wales and Great Britain, I am sure that you would wish them every success in this life changing experience.

“Sports that Welsh athletes are competing in are aquatics, badminton, sprint kayaking and 10-Pin bowling.

“We have a big task ahead to help fund these athletes and coaches to attend this prestigious event, each athlete will have to find £2,500.”
