Cadoxton Barry FC 0 - 0 AFC Whitchurch

WHAT a difference a week can make in the funny old world of football. When, last week, the final line of the CB defence had left a lot to be desired whereas this week it was rock solid. And what a difference that can make in terms of points won, even if you fail to score at the other end.

The early action saw a 40 yard volley from the visitors' Sean Clarke whistle just over the Cadoxton Barry bar. But, beyond that, two determined defences ensured that neither keeper had any serious work to do up to the interval. Oaten went closest for CB when, after evading three challenges, his final effort was just wide of the far post.

The start of the second half saw the injured Walsh being replaced by Ross Matthews - just back from his honeymoon. The second half proved to be very similar to the first inasmuch as it was always the two defences that were in charge - Curran, at centre half, in full command for CB. However, Scott Williams did go close for CB following a quality build up that involved Thompson and Dawson.

There was another serious opportunity for the home side when Weekley broke down the left to send in a fine cross to Oaten, but his diving header just cleared the bar.

And Whitchurch's one chance came right at the death when a cracking volley from 30 yards brought an equally brilliant save out of the CB keeper, Shaun Harker.

After shipping eight goals to a lesser side than Whitchurch the previous week, it was vital that CB rallied to get something from this match against the side that had taken their second spot following that defeat. That they did against a side with one of the meaner defences in the division does great credit to the Barry side.

Curran has already had a mention for his commanding rearguard performance, but although CB failed to score, Oaten should be commended for his tireless efforts up front. The whole side should be applauded for the way in which they came back after the shock heavy defeat of the previous week.

Cadoxton Barry is at home yet again next Saturday. This time the visitors will be Llanrumney United. Kick off 2pm.
