South Wales Senior League Division Two

Cadoxton Barry FC 6 - 1 St Josephs

Oaten 2, Thompson 2,

Morgan, Weekley

DOUBLE doubles from Oaten and Thompson saw the division's top scoring side soaring away to another big scoreline.

Arguably, this was CB's best performance of the season so far as, with just eight minutes gone, a Dawson cross from the right found Rhodri Morgan out to the left of the box from where he dummied as if to cross before taking aim with a shot from a tight angle that looped perfectly to dip into the net at the far right.

Saints then had a great opportunity when a player at the far post headed wide from a corner with 'keeper Harker stranded at the near post. But then a ball through the field found Adams and, after avoiding a challenge and seeing the 'keeper forward of the line, he executed a cheeky little dink which bounced off the cross bar.

Just beyond the twenty minute mark another quality run down the left by Morgan saw his shot at goal cleared off the line, but it came back out to Oaten who buried it with a cracking drive from the edge of the box.

In a rare threat of danger for CB, Saints broke upfield and a fierce drive at goal from distance had Harker scrambling to his right as the shot was only inches wide of the post. This lifted the visitors who then enjoyed a short five minute spell of pressure leading up to half time.

Ten minutes into the second half a Thompson throw in found Oaten who fired following a charge at goal down the right. It looked like a certain goal, but from nowhere a defender appeared to make a quality last minute clearance. The ensuing corner was cleared to Adams who chipped a high ball back in to Thompson. He trapped it beautifully as he became aware that the keeper was moving forward. Another chip and the ball dipped into the net behind the advancing 'keeper.

A Saints break away from the restart once again saw them looking odds on to score but the alert Harker came forward and the narrowed angle saw the shot go just wide of the post.

Substitutions saw Walsh and Weekley arrive on the scene and this heralded an excellent sequence of passes from Oaten to Baker and on to Weekley for the last of the three to see his shot well saved. However, Thompson was on hand to rectify matters as a side on waist high scissor kick saw the loose ball home.

A third substitution then saw Steel join the fray. And not long after, around the seventy-five minute mark, a move started with Adams moving the ball cross field and ended with Weekley scoring from half a dozen yards out on the left. And yet another passing move from Morgan via Weekley and Baker ended with Oaten adding his second from close range. But with CB visibly relaxing St Josephs were allowed to break away to take a dip at goal as Harker came forward.

This was an excellent performance from Cadoxton Barry and although they faced only ten men during the latter stages, the match was already well won before the sending off.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry faces South Wales Amateur League strugglers, Graig, in the South Wales Senior Cup. KO 2pm at Bryn-Y-Don.

Meanwhile, in Division One of the Vale of Glamorgan League Cadoxton Barry seconds fought out a goal less draw with The Knap, while, in Division Two, Barry Belgrade, a side who are punching well below their weight in this division, scored eleven with CB thirds coming up with just a single consolation goal.
