BARRY Saints kept up their winning ways to keep their 100 per cent record this season intact with a hard earned 4-3 victory.

Saints had their backs to the wall, not giving the opposition enough credit going out with an attacking formation.

Vulcan took the lead after latching on to through ball and rounding the keeper to tap home in to an empty net.

Saints hit back through the dangerous Darren Townsend who hit a stunning volley which took a slight deflection on its way towards goal to easily beat the Vulcan keeper.

Vulcan retook the league after some sloppy defending a low shot was fumbled in to the six yard box which left the Vulcan striker a free shot at goal to smash home.

As usual Saints pegged them back immediately, something which they have been doing all season after conceding.

David Evans slid a perfectly weighted through pass for Townsend to latch on to, he rounded the keeper with ease and slotted the ball home.

Half time and manager Gareth Long could see the attacking 3-5-2 formation was not giving the opposition the respect they deserved.

This was switched to a 4-5-1 with Ollie Cooke coming on to strengthen the back line and Joss Davies coming on to offer creativity in the middle.

After the restart both teams were making chances but Saints struck the first blow.

The Vulcan keeper hit a poor goal kick towards Townsend near the half way line.

He used his chest to control the ball and as he began to accelerate away from his markers he only had the keeper to beat from a tight angle.

He struck a venomous half volley towards goal which the keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.

The Vulcan never let this affect them and kept coming forward and was soon rewarded with an equaliser when a through ball was converted low in to the bottom corner. With 10 minutes left the game could have gone either way but it was Saints that finished stronger and grabbed what was to be the winning goal.

Josh Cummings picking up the ball on the right touchline, he whipped a dangerous ball into the box and found Towsend who cushioned the ball down with his chest into the path of David A Evans who made no mistake with a stunning half volley low into the bottom corner sending the Saints side line in to euphoria.

Saints hung on for the win without playing anywhere near their best against the toughest team they have met so far this season.
