ON Saturday Barry Athletic 1st XI travelled to Malpas for their penultimate League Game of the season, lost the toss and were asked to bowl first on a dampish wicket with a mixed side.

Malpas were soon on the back foot as they lost the wicket of Griffiths for 0 with the Score on 9 Caught By Brock off the bowling of Frost, it soon became 23 for 2 when Frost had Baker caught By Usswald, Malpas were soon deeper in the mire when they lost the wickets Of Martin and Francis with the score on 59 to Frost and Hellyar respectively, it then became 69 for 5 when Archer was caught behind off Frost, at 76 there was a brilliant direct hit run out from Steve Jones to remove Hassan, further wickets fell at 105 and 114 as Captain Gee picked up the wickets, there was then a 83 run partnership between Mason and Rose which saw Malpas post 197 for 8 in their 50 overs, Frost ending with 4 for 42 and Gee 2 for 25.

Barry’s innings got of to a solid Start as David Goodway and Paul Murphy had taken the score to 36 after 9 overs when the rain came and there was an hour’s delay, a recalculated score of 143 was come to in 36 overs, so when play resumed Barry required another 107 of 27 overs and had reached 51 before Murthy was out LBW for 25, David Goodway and Steve Jones then moved the score on to 98 with some great running between the wickets mixed with some sublime shots to the boundary before Jones was caught for 25 this Brought Ashley Baker to the wicket and he and Goodway carried on where Goodway and Jones had left off and in the 33rd over with Barry needing 16 to win Goodway took a single off the 1st Ball, then Baker proceeded to go 4,4,4,2 and finishing the over with the single that won the game and a fine 25 not out in 20 balls, with David Goodway finishing 61 not out and passing 500 league runs in the process.

This Saturday Barry Athletic 1st XI are at home to top of the table Pontymister with a 12.30pm start and all players are asked to be at the ground for 11.15am, the 2nd XI play the same opposition away, On Saturday, September 20 the club will be holding their presentation evening at the Club and could all players and members make every effort to attend, then on Friday, September 26 The Club will be holding their AGM at The Club House at 7.30pm could all players and members please attend as 2015 is a big year with the club being 125 years old.
