CADOXTON v BARRY PLASTICS

Cadoxton suffered a 19-shot Munro Cup defeat after each side won two rinks.

Cadoxton's most successful rink was skipped by John Jones, who led Lee Romans' four 16-3 at halfway and, although conceding nine shots over four ends, eventually completed an emphatic win.

Gordon Davies was Cadoxton's other successful skip - by just one shot - in a tight affair against Peter Oxenham.

Derek Brook only managed four winning ends against experienced Plastics' skip Keith Romans, with Howard Craven’s rink being put to the sword by opposing skip Graham Brown.

Cadoxton: R Byrne, D Hammond, I Robertson, H Craven 10-22; S Clements, G Solomon, S Clarke, D Brook 6-27; E Heppenstall, J Sugden, D Evans, G Davies, 17-16; J Stacey, P Swannick, D Jeffries, J Jones 25-12. Cadoxton 58, Plastics 77.

In another Munro Cup clash, visitors Penarth Windsor pulled away in the later stages to win 81-41.

CADOXTON v PENYRHEOL A

Home side Cadoxton failed to recover from a bad start as they suffered a 16-shot defeat in this Municipal League 4 match.

Skipping for the side for the first time, Gordon Davies conceded a two and a three before recovering steadily to secure a three-shot win, and Don Kuhnell's four were also victorious. Kelvin Chedgzoy suffered three successive losing ends in defeat and Howard Craven's rink, despite notching up a fine five, never recovered from dropping nine shots behind early on.

Cadoxton: L Davies, S Clarke, D Brook, H Craven 13-25; P Swannick, R Harding, P Ellis, K Chedgzoy 18-27; R Byrne, D Evans, J Jones, D Kuhnell 23-21; G Solomon, I Robertson, D Jefferies, G Davies 21-18. Cadoxton 75, Penyrheol 91.

FULL TEAMS

After a couple of painful months of struggling to find enough players to field full teams and losing to local rivals Barry Central, Cadoxton A have notched up two handsome Municipal League 5 victories.

Against Barry Central on July 19, Alex Turner led Cadoxton's only winning rink.

Cadoxton: R Cole, D Hammond, A Turner 20-13; S Clements, A Field, A Prince, A Carpenter 8-27; J Stacey, I Heppenstall, M Curtis 11-24; E Heppenstall, D Fanning, J Sugden 18-25. Cadoxton A 57, Barry Central 89.

Following two postponements, Cadoxton A met Murch A on July 21 and were successful on all rinks to win 102-55.

There was another clearcut victory for the side when they visited Rumney A on Saturday.

Cadoxton: D Fanning, J Sugden, L Davies, D Tuck 19-20; A Carpenter, G Solomon, D Jefferies, R Harding 14-23; J Stacey, D Hammond, Craven, D Kuhnell 24-14; R Byrne, H Hellyar, M Curtis, J Jones 34-14. Rumney A 71, Cadoxton A 91.

In both matches, lead newcomer Rob Byrne and vice-captain Dennis Hammond played significant parts, ably supported by a prudent mix of experienced and newish recruits.

A side captain David Fanning said: "Every so often it's good to remind people that Cadoxton were playing top-notch bowls when other Barry and nearby clubs were just twinkles in their founder parents' eyes."
