BARRY Town United came from behind twice to earn a 6-2 win at Western League outfit Hengrove Athletic in Saturday's pre-season friendly across the Severn Bridge.

Celebrating 50 years of football at Norton Lane, Hengrove seized a 22nd minute lead through Scott Lewis before Barry's James Dixon drove home his team's first equaliser - a low, smart finish five minutes before the break.

No more than 60 seconds from the restart, the home side were back in front, with Shane Cummings converting a penalty past guest goalkeeper Lewis Wilcox.

Nevertheless, Dixon was soon on hand to level matters again, rounding the Hengrove goalkeeper and slotting home.

In the final half hour Barry stamped their authority on the game as Lee Baldock gave Barry the lead before Dixon completed his hat-trick. The returning Rhys James also added his name to the scoresheet, while top goalscorer Jordan Cotterill opened his pre-season account from the penalty spot.

Manager Gavin Chesterfield was happy to welcome back defender Ryan Evans, after a summer stint playing in the United States, while several of the club's U19 squad also enjoyed a run-out.

Long-serving goalkeeper Dan Bradley is poised to start on Saturday at Haverfordwest County (2.30pm) before Barry welcome opposition from Cardiff City FC to Jenner Park on Tuesday (7pm).

With Town supporters working hard to paint and clean at the clubhouse, the Jenner Rooms will be open on the evening serving alcohol and soft drinks, as well as for the following week's cup tie against Merthyr. Tickets for both matches (each £5, with discounts for U12s) are available online at www.barry.ticketsource.co.uk or from secretary David Cole on 07557 665 847.

Availability at the turnstiles will depend on capacity and safety regulations, with supporters encouraged to secure their places early to ensure they avoid disappointment.

Further entertainment for Tuesday includes a barbecue, face painting and the Barry U12 side in half-time action, making the annual curtain-raiser to the Town's home season a fun night out for all the family.
