ON Saturday Barry Athletic Cricket Club Firsts made the short trip to meet local rivals Sully Centurions in an exciting and tense match.

Asked to bat, Barry were soon in trouble as they lost Brock, Rhett Jones and Hugh Smith (22) in reaching 34 for three. Under the weather Steve Provis decided that attack was the best option and, with 10 fours and a six in his 37-ball half century, he put on 75 with Aaron Smith (22). However, the score again slipped to 163 for eight and Provis fell for a fine 75. Dafydd Frost and Billy Usswald added 39 for the ninth wicket, with the former continuing his fine form with the bat with 20 and Usswald being last man out for a fine 47. Barry were bowled out for 211 in, yet again, less than the allocated 50 overs.

In reply, Sully made a bad start as they slipped to 48 for four in the first 20 overs. This brought Jake Griffett and Tom Davies together and the former smashed his way to a 26-ball 50, including five fours and three sixes, before going on to a fine century and eventually falling for 106 with the score on 184. As Sully edged towards the required total, Spear and Ellis contributed 27 and 15 respectively and the youthful home side eventually triumphed by two wickets.

92-RUN WIN

At the Island, Barry Seconds were asked to bat by the Centurions and were 63 for three when dad Martin Baker (82 no) joined son Ashley (101 no) at the crease and the pair added 190 runs for the fourth wicket.

Replying to Barry's 253, Sully were bowled out for 161, with the highlight for the visitors being 67 from Ricky Griffett. The pick of the Barry bowlers, as his side chalked up a 92-run win, was Scott Malpas with five for 16.
