LOOKING to continue their good start to the Municipal League 1 season, Barry Romilly Bowling Club entertained Cardiff side St Joseph’s on Saturday.

Determined to make Rom work for a result, St Joseph's produced some excellent bowls to lead by 23 shots after five ends, with the home side leading on just one rink - four shots in favour of Jeff Wright.

Taking time to come to terms with a heavy green, Romilly eventually turned things around to lead by nine shots after 10 ends and, with the sun emerging and drying out the surface, they looked in good shape. Wright's rink continued to play well to build a 13-shot lead whereas Graham Cogbill’s rink struggled against a St Joseph’s rink skipped by an inspired Kevin Lewis and were nine shots adrift. In control with a 24-shot lead after 15 ends, Brian Foscolo’s rink, after early struggles, played with more confidence, and Mel Newman’s four held a seven-shot advantage.

Maintaining their form over the final ends to pick up 12 out of 14 points from a 25-shot win, Romilly now sit proudly at the top of the table.

Romilly skip scores: M Newman 21-19; J Wright 29-10; B Foscolo 23-12; G Cogbill 16-23. Romilly 89, St Joseph's 64.
