THE Barry Athletic Tennis Club holds an open day on Saturday, April 26, with activities for juniors and adults being interspersed with refreshments.

The open day starts at 1.30pm and marks the start of a season of summer tennis when all players, both new and old, and of all abilities, are welcome. If anyone has not picked up a racket for a while, the club has evenings set aside to rejuvenate skills and strokes.

Located on Barry Island next to the cricket ground, the club has a men's team in Division 1 and a ladies' team in Division 6 of inter-club summer doubles leagues with matches taking place between May and July. The ladies' night is Tuesday and the men's night is Wednesday, with all welcome.

Monday and Thursday evenings are scheduled for social tennis where all members enjoy playing with different partners. A schedule of veterans tennis is also organised for midweek mornings throughout the summer.

For the youngsters, Vale Tennis Academy hold junior sessions on Sunday mornings (with a nominal charge) when a programme of events are organised throughout the season. All children are welcome.

For anyone apprehensive about joining a tennis club, there is an introductory “Rusty Rackets” programme on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm, where a court is allocated for practice under the guidance of a club member.

The club has four all-weather courts, and a successful and enjoyable season is anticipated by all.
