SULLY SPORTS 9

AGAINST opponents looking to ensure their safety in the First Division, Sully Sports dominated Saturday's South Wales Senior Soccer League clash on a difficult playing surface.

Indeed, the very tacky and greasy pitch was the downfall of Sully's senior fixture secretary, Keith Bolt, who paid the price for wearing slicks on the touchline!

The speed of the surface after the rain enabled Sports to show their slick passing style which, on the day, was too good for the home side.

Despite some heavy tackles from the Stars, Sully retained their discipline and goals flowed, with difficult to control Dan Lawlor bagging four. Strike partner Long, with a bandaged head after losing an argument with a tree, was on the scoresheet with a brace and other scorers were the impressive McInery, Ferguson and club captain Ed Jones. Man of the match was Lawlor.

Last night (Wednesday) Sports made the trip to Cornelly for their final away game of the season, with both teams vying for points with Cwm Welfare for the title. On Saturday Sully entertain Brecon Corries; kick-off 2pm.

Sully's Vale League side met the Tynny on Saturday and, in an even encounter that had everything from hitting the crossbar, post, goalmouth scrambles and a missed penalty, they were edged out 1-0.

With Sports looking for a point to secure the league title, they return to action on April 19 against FC Pumas at Sully.

Sully Ladies entertained title hopefuls and free-scoring Cyncoed on Sunday and went down 7-1.

Sports were without a few regulars for this tough game and coach Mark Brown, shuffling the pack, was pleased with the effort shown in a difficult match.

Sully are home again to Merthyr Town this Sunday (kick-off 2pm) and follow up with a trip to Pontypridd next Tuesday for a match under floodlights; 7.15pm kick off.
