A SMALL contingent of competitors and spectators from the Cadoxton Schools of Taekwondo travelled the short distance to Aberdare to take part in the Battle of Wales.

The tournament, with competitors from all over the principality, was hosted by Rob Taylor.

Competing for the first time were Alan Evans and Mason Blackley. Alan was in one of the largest categories of the day and came away with 2nd place in point sparring. While giving a good account of himself Mason lost to the eventual category winner by just one point.

Ever improving young Cody Jacobsen took 2nd place in point sparring. At the same time on a different area Cian Allen was on the mat and came away with a 3rd place in continuous sparring.

As usual Thomas Haysham was competing against bigger opponents of the same age category, just losing out by one point in the dying seconds of the point sparring. Not disappointed, he raised his game to take 2nd place in the continuous sparring.

With her superior kicking ability Keita Enfield fought her way into the final of the women’s point sparring taking the gold and 1st place. Jamie Halford showed his strength in the men’s point sparring to once again take 1st place.

Having been taken into extra time, three times Morganne Gomez Jones was the eventual winner in her continuous sparring category. Morganne went on to take 2nd place in the point sparring category. Unfortunately Lucy Newman had to pull out of her category due to injury, with Emily Halford just missing out on a podium place.

Bradley Halford, taking 1st place in both his point and continuous sparring categories, was without doubt the star of the day.
