FIVE first-half goals brought the Vale Girls' Football Club U16s a great away win over previously unbeaten opponents.
Forced to defend for the first 10 minutes, the Vale side were thankful for a superb save by Rebecca Egerstrom to keep them on level terms. Soon after, Shelby Richards struck an excellent shot but was thwarted by a wonderful double save by Molly Facey in the Valleys goal.
After this, the Vale Girls took control and Richards scored twice in the space of three minutes, the first with a glorious shot from 15 yards and the second following an excellent corner from Chloe Jones.
Two shots by Jones and one from Georgia Atkinson were well saved by the Valleys goalkeeper. With the Vale well on top, Richards completed her hat-trick from the penalty spot after 30 minutes and another lovely passing move resulted in a great cross from Atkinson being tapped in by Ellie Wenger to make it 4-0.
Valleys responded with a few good attacks and nearly scored after the Vale keeper dropped the ball which was eventually cleared by Kayley. Another great run and cross by Atkinson brought Richards her fourth goal and gave the Vale a 5-0 half-time lead.
The second half was less productive and although having plenty of the play, the Vale were unable to increase the advantage. Valleys scored an excellent goal after 50 minutes to reduce the arrears. Despite several good attempts by both sides, the score remained 5-1.
Vale manager Gino Esposito was extremely pleased with the team performance and picked out Atkinson in attack and Niamh Teague in defence as the outstanding players.
The result puts the Vale into second spot in the league and augurs well for the rest of the season. Next week sees the visit of Cardiff City Ladies in what should be an entertaining and close game at the Butts; kick-off 2pm.
U12 results:
Vale Athletic 1, Port Talbot 1;
Vale Athletic 3, Cardiff University 0;
Vale Wanderers 1, Penybont 1;
Vale Wanderers 2, Sully Sports 0.
