Success for local gymnasts in Welsh Disability Championships

PENARTH Gymnastic Club members were in the spotlight with success in the Welsh Disability Championships on Sunday (September 23).

On a weekend packed to the rafters with gymnastic competition, the championships were held at the Cardiff Central Club. Split into three groups, 11 gymnasts, male and female, showed their skills on their respective pieces of apparatus to earn the sought after medals.

In the men’s artistic group A level 2, Penarth's Gareth Lloyd took top spot (105.46) after six pieces of apparatus by the narrowest of margins from clubmate James Savory (104.06).

Vault was a hotly contested affair in group B level 1, with each gymnast scoring over 18 points. Daniel Johnson (Neath Afan) won the vault rotation but was pushed all the way by Penarth duo David Melly, who took the floor title with 16.7, and Dafydd Williams who put in a fantastic parallel bar performance to take gold with a score of 16.6.
