MASON'S MOVING GROUP 1 SP CONSTRUCTION 2
SP CONSTRUCTION made the short journey to Severn Avenue on Saturday to face Mason's Moving Group in their second Premier Division fixture of the Vale Soccer League.
Looking to follow up an opening day win against Penarth, SP were at near full strength and sported a smart new kit, courtesy of new sponsors Dave and Jo Miller at the King William IV.
With the pitch looking in good condition, SP started brightly and Lee Connell went close on a number of occasions. As the half went on, the game got scrappy, with both teams restricted to long-range efforts. Youngsters Stephen Drew and Paul Palmer, along with Mike Baker, ensured Mason's attacks were few and far between but both defences were on top as the half finished goalless.
The second half saw SP increase the tempo and take control. The returning Drew Thomas was broughtt on from the bench to replace injured Lee Carter and it wasn't long before the change paid dividends, with the prolific Franky Bunn opening the scoring with a delicate effort.
Richard Drew nearly made it 2-0 when his header hit the bar and bounced on the line twice but Bunn was on had to double the lead from close range soon after.
A quickly taken free-kick in injury time brough Mason's a consolation, with SP switching off and costing themselves a second league clean sheet in a row, but the three points were secure. Man of the match was the outstanding Connell, with Baker and Bunn also putting in good performances.
The players and management would like to thank Jo and Dave at the Billy for the new kits, sponsorship and also the post-match food.
