Ship victorious in goal-fest

CADOXTON BARRY 4 SHIP INN FC 6

BRYN y Don does not seem to be the favorite haunt of the Ship players - two visits last season, no victories, ten goals conceded.

And Saturday was another day where the defences of both sides played poorly, and the attackers had chances to score double figures.

Ship got ahead with a goal from Trevor supplied by Sparky; then bagged a second when Neck followed up a shot that was spilled by the keeper.

The Ship were in control before poor defending coupled with a good finish got CB back into it, only for Ship to make it 3-1 with Gwyn's first of his four goals in the game.

Again CB came back, but Ship restored the two goal cushion before half time to lead 4-2 at the break.

Second half and the Ship players seemed to forget how to pass the ball and retain possession, and let the opposition dominate large periods of the game. And eventually the home team got their rewards as they clawed back the two goal deficit to level at 4-4 and set up an interesting last quarter of an hour.

Last season the Ship would have lost this type of game but this time they showed the fighting qualities which are going to be needed some weekends, Gwyn grabbing two goals to bring the final score in at 6-4.

A day for both sides to be happy with their attacking flair, but unhappy at some of the defending. For the spectators a 10 goal thriller that could easily have been more; for the managers and coaches it means a return to the defensive drawing board possibly!
