FC PUMAS 2 CADOXTON IMPS 2
FC PUMAS maintained their good form with a 2-2 draw against Cadoxton Imps on a blustery day at Sully.
With numerous lads unavailable after last week's win, Leighton Gronow made his first appearance of the season between the sticks. Brother Mark, Jake Wallace and Ryan Murphy also came into the starting line-up.
Kicking off, the game was very scrappy and both sides looked to settle down, and against the wind the Pumas took the lead 10 minutes in when Wallace lobbed the oncoming Imps keeper after good work from Murphy.
After the goal the Imps piled on the pressure and following a defensive lapse by the Pumas, they got their equaliser by slotting under an oncoming Gronow.
Jodie Dean hit the Imps bar and had a goal disallowed for offside towards the end of the half, and Gronow had to be in fine form to thwart the opposing side on numerous occasions until the whistle went and the sides went into the break level.
The second half kicked off with Dean replaced by debutant Minty Viscount.
It was the Imps who seemed the more likely to score early on and after a shot at goal was handled on the line by unlucky Puma Joe Cleary, the Imps had a penalty and the Pumas where down to 10 men. The penalty was converted and the Pumas had an uphill battle.
But it spurred on the Pumas and they started playing better, and even though they where stretched at times, they kept pushing for the equaliser.
With only a minute left on the clock, Connor Ogden picked up the ball and took on three defenders only to see his fantastic shot hit the bar, but captain Brian Gillen was on hand, producing the equaliser with a great diving header.
A point deserved for both sides, but this seemed like a loss for the Imps and a win for the Pumas.
Thanks to Cadoxton Imps and also to the referee. Also thanks to the Tadross staff and punters for the great food and hospitality.
Man of the match for the Pumas was Leighton Gronow.
