Cadoxton Barry in control against Caerphilly

CADOXTON BARRY 5 FC CAERPHILLY 2

CADOXTON Barry were in control of this match from start to finish and at one point it seemed just a question of how many.

After numerous early chances, the deadlock was broken when a penalty was awarded following a foul on Conner McInery. He dusted himself down and sent the keeper the wrong way.

One soon became two as McInery cut in from the left to shoot across the Caerphilly goalkeeper and into the net. Aiden Lewis was causing all sorts of problems down the other flank as CB stretched the Caerphilly defence.

Gareth Fiddler and Ross Weekley occupied the centre halves to leave the spaces for the midfield to exploit as Chris Hurn pulled the strings whilst Darren Baker gave his usual energetic performance.

CB went further in front when McInery swung in a corner which may or may not have crossed the line directly before Fiddler made sure. Sort that one out between yourselves lads!

Caerphilly did rally at times but Patrick Curran and Rhys Hopkins kept the normally dangerous Kennedy in check, and Kristian Shaw and Sam Adamson were joining in the CB attacks from full back.

Before the break there was time for McInery to help himself to another goal. When a Kristian Shaw pile driver could only bring a block from the Caerphilly keeper, Conner picked up the pieces to fire home.

With the game seemingly won, CB used the squad in the second half introducing Ashley Govier and Adam Gulwell. Caerphilly pulled a goal back before Fiddler finished well to restore the four goal advantage.

Warner had a quiet afternoon in the CB goal, but he was helpless when Kennedy finally got on the scoresheet for Caerphilly's second, and Mark Ellis was introduced up front to help see the game out.

The match ended 5-2 and CB now look forward to the visit of Lisvane to Bryn-y-Don in the SWFA Senior Cup, kick-off 1.30pm.

At the same time on nearby pitches, both Cadoxton Barry reserve sides will be playing - so go along to enjoy a football bonanza. Programmes will be on sale.
