Great start for Barry Saints

WINNING START: Barry Saints WINNING START: Barry Saints

BARRY SAINTS 3 CSK SOPHIA GARDENS 1

BARRY Saints opened their season at home to CSK Sophia Gardens.

CSK started the better and went one up with Bo coming off his line too slowly. Now in recent times Saints heads would have gone down - but this time it actually switched everyone on and Saints got a hold of the game.

With Joss running things from the left, linking up with the midfield and top two, it was just rewards when he got his goal and the equaliser.

The Barry defence were on top for the rest of the game with the back four having a stormer.

After hard work from Ben and Zack in the middle, Joss got his second of the game to make it 2-1 at half time.

The second half started brightly for the Saints as the Latvian hitman up top was working his socks off. King Shane was brought on, and he scored a stunner into the bottom left corner to make it 3-1.

Joss was man of the match for his two great goals, but every player and supporter played their part.

A strong start to the season.

BARRY SAINTS 2 CANTON 1

THE saints were in action on the weekend in their second game of the season, and kept their 100 per cent start.

With the Canton team not losing a game in 2 and a half years the saints knew it was going to be tough. With the game starting at a fast pace the Saints found themselves 1-0 down with poor keeping by stand-in Bo, but with added pressure from Canton and the non-stop blowing of the whistle, Saints found it hard to keep in the game.

Half time came and manager Bo came off with an injury and made a brave choice putting on three subs.

Saints never looked back, with Zac and Dez running things from the middle and Joey and the Latvian hit man up top.

Then came Saints' goal, Dez's dancing feet hop-skipping past 4 players and he scored a stunner. This got the Saints right up for it, and man of the match Berto was on fine form, with class work from the back four, and fed the ball nicely to the middle two. Then up stepped the Latvian hit man to settle thing and score a wonder goal from 30 yards.

Saints ran out 2-1 winner and Canton lost their 2 and a half year unbeaten run.

The Saints are at home to Leckwith in the cup at Wenvoe.
