RHOOSE ROVERS 4 CADOXTON IMPS B 3
A FINE second half performance from Rhoose Rovers FC ensured their first win in the Vale of Glamorgan AFL after a stunning comeback to beat promotion hopefuls, Cadaxton Imps B at the Rovers Recreation Ground in Rhoose.
Rovers started on the back foot, with the Imps exposing the defence which has looked shaky. However, sterling performances from (Joe) Walsh and Trickett ensured no early goals were given away.
The home side grew into the game, but shot themselves in the foot by gifting the opposition a free-kick in a dangerous position. It was converted in spectacular fashion, 0-1.
With Rovers feeling downbeat, Imps struck again a minute later to finish the first half 0-2 up.
A motivational talk from manager, Dave Walsh, saw a confident Rovers in the second half. They looked positive and were rewarded with a penalty for handball.
Walsh scored comfortably to the keeper’s left, 1-2.
Rhoose looked a different side and within minutes made it 2-2 after goal-machine Drew Barre caught the keeper out with a 25 yard strike into the bottom corner.
The match looked like it could go either way but with the home side on the front foot, it was no surprise when tireless midfielder Chris Vinson surged through and scored to put the Rovers 3-2 up.
Vinson made it 4-2 and the away side reduced it to 4-3. However, the day belonged to Rovers and they celebrated in front of a packed home support. Congratulations to the players and management.
