Sully Centurions victorious in end-of-season friendly

SULLY Centurions Cricket Club entertained Miskin Manor in an end of season friendly on Sunday and ran out 64-run winners thanks in no small measure to two guest players - Nathan Baker and regular Sunday visitor David Goodway.

Batting on a dull and overcast day, Sully made a solid start with Goodway and Ben Callow batting sensibly to take the score along to 76 when the latter was bowled for 22 by Skelton. Baker and Goodway then enjoyed a stand of 116, with the boundary being peppered by good shots from both players. Baker brought some urgency to the batting and soon began to catch his partner.

Goodway was eventually out - bowled by Bellam - for a very good 99, and so agonisingly close to a century. Later cameos from Ben Spear (seven) and Shae Ellis (three not out) helped the total to 218 for three off 40 overs, with Baker unbeaten on 80 at the end.

Following tea, the visitors also started well, with Owen and Robinson reaching 43 before Haswell bowled the latter for 10. Owen was joined by Korran, who rode his luck on his way to 23 before being trapped lbw by Callow with the score on 111.

Owen continued to play his shots but, like Goodway, narrowly missed out on a century, falling to a good catch by Alex Langrish off the bowling of Ellis, for a well made 90. Giles remained on 14 not out and Newbury was stumped by Lloyd Bruce off Ellis off the last ball of the match.

In spite of some spirited batting, Miskin finished well short of the target on 154 for four, with the best bowling for Centurions coming from Callow (1-20), Ellis (2-20), Haswell (1-8) and Pavell (0-11).
