Training under way as season looms for Penarth Hockey

PRE-SEASON training has started as the first games of the new campaign fast approach for Penarth mens and ladies hockey clubs.

With the mens club training at Barry Sports Centre, and the ladies at Sophia Gardens, there is plenty of opportunity to go along and give the sport a try. Both clubs have junior and senior sections and new recruits are always welcome.

As well as midweek training, Penarth Men have an opening weekend trial session this Saturday at Barry Sports Centre from noon to 2pm.

Penarth Ladies have a Games Legacy Coaching day with international players on hand on September 23. This is open to girls in year 7 to year 9 and will feature expert training from Maartje Paumen and Luciana Aymar.

* Penarth Men - Training every Wednesday at Barry Sports Centre. Juniors 6.15pm to 7.15pm. Seniors 7pm to 8.15pm. Opening weekend trial session this Saturday (September 6) from noon to 2pm.

* Penarth Ladies - Training every Wednesday at the National Hockey Centre, Sophia Gardens. Juniors 6pm to 7pm. Seniors 7pm to 9pm. Olympic Games Legacy Day, Sunday, September 23, from 9.30am to 3pm.
