TYNEWYDD FC got their 2012/13 Vale of Glamorgan Soccer League campaign off to a great start with a convincing away win.
Quickly coming to terms with the usual blustery conditions in Sully, Tynewydd made the better start to the game and created chances from the word go. Both Ross and Jammo went close early on.
On the 25-minute mark, some good work from debutant Brandon at right back resulted in Julian Brana being released down the right wing and, when he could easily have taken the chance himself, he unselfishly crossed for Ross Smith to tap in the opener.
Ten minutes later, Jammo robbed the centre back on the halfway line and slid the ball through to Smith who made no mistake, calmly slotting home his second to give Tynny a 2-0 half-time lead.
The start to the second half was a bit flat and this allowed Pumas to creep back into the game. After a corner pinballed around the box, it was stabbed home by Pumas to bring the game back to 2-1.
The goal seemed to wake Tynny up and it wasn't long before some excellent work on the left allowed Ross to turn provider as he whipped in a lovely cross which was scissor-kicked in by captain Lewis Union.
This seemed to kill the Pumas off and it wasn't long before Smith completed his hat-trick when some neat footwork from Matthew Leighton resulted in an easy chance that was duly converted.
Man of the match went to Andrew Colburn for his all-action display in the middle of the park where he worked well with Matthew Hesp to control the game.
On a team note, massive congratulations to gaffer Gareth Union and his wife, Jess, who celebrated the birth of their first child Billy last week, and also to Dale Miller who married Katherine last Saturday.
