SEA VIEW RFC 38 CANTON RFC 20

IN WEATHER more suited for beach rugby, Sea View were hosts to Canton RFC.

Avoiding their usual slow start the View took the game to Canton from the off.

Leon Ford crossed the line first after some good hands between forwards and backs, and then a Canton infringement at the breakdown gave the View a chance to extend the lead. A well struck penalty sailed between the uprights to make it 10-0.

Canton struck back with a well taken try to reduce the deficit before Josh Barker steamed down the wing to score in the corner for his first try for the club.

With Canton adding a penalty to their score Sea View led 17-8 at the turn round.

Sea View shot out of the blocks at the start of the second half, and a split ball saw the View centres carve a hole in the Canton defence, with Williams making a 40m break before passing to James Braithwaite. Rather than risk spoiling his hair diving over the line he selflessly passed to Nathan Harding who scored under the posts.

A lapse in concentration allowed Canton back into the game, and with two tries they closed the gap to 24-20.

Digging deep the View came back with two more converted tries, one from a move off the back of the scrum, for Cake to score under the posts. The second, capitalising on a Canton error, saw Harding hack through, chase and with the ball bouncing nicely for him he gathered and scored his second try for a final score of 38-20.

Unbeaten in the league with bonus points as well, the View are riding high - a testament to the training regime of Messrs Staniforth, Morgan and Williams.

SECONDS

THE 2nd XV are finding it tough in the restructured league, and a hard away fixture against Rhiwbina saw them lose 68-0.

Despite the score line there were plenty of positives to take from the game, and even when injury reduced them to 14 they never gave up.

The final quarter saw some decent attacks with Nathan Pearson breaking the gain line on several occasions. Matt Ellis made a promising debut at flanker, coming on for the injured Gary Palmer.

Special mention also to Julian Evans, having his first game for 6 years!

As always thanks to our supporters for attending both matches, thanks to Barry Island Sports and Social for post match hospitality.

This weekend there are no league fixtures due to cup matches, so our friends from Old Penarthians will be the visitors for a friendly fixture, kick off 2.30pm at the Comp.
