THE Wales vs England British Karate Kyokushinkai (BKK) Championships were held on Saturday, May 8.

Heavyweight Paul Stephens from the Rising-Sun-Dojo Barry was selected to represent Wales at the event held at Bishop's Stortford in England, and faced a heavier opponent in the arena.

The match took three rounds of full contact knockdown karate to decide an overall winner, and Paul was declared the winner at the end of the bout.

Instructor and coach Spencer Bennett said: "Paul had to dig deep towards the end to get the decision from the judges, but did tremendously well to knock his opponent back enough to gain the win for Wales."

Wales took the coveted British event overall and came back victorious, with the team dominating the evening's display of full contact kyokushin.

Brothers and instructors Lee and Spencer Bennett were pleased with Paul and proud to have another British Champion student within the club.
