CASTLE FC 3 BARRY VILLA 2
CASTLE FC entertained Barry Villa at the Butts due to damaged changing rooms at Wenvoe, and it was great for the managers Craig and Degsy to have a full squad to pick from.
Castle were under pressure from the start with Barry Villa intent on taking all 3 points. The defence of Mike Blackmore, Dan Lane, Jordon Gill and Paul 'Mojo' Caulfield were kept very busy from the start.
Barry Villa struck first blood with some nice football and the Castle were 1-0 down.
Barry Villa had set up with five in midfield which made it hard for the home midfield of Tom Schembri, 'The Enforcer' Ashley Cove (who is on his way back from injury), 'Twinkle Toes' Casey Thompson and Sion Old, who had to work to find strikers Rhys Palmer and Chris 'Eggy' Scott.
Eventually the Castle won a corner from some great attacking football and Rhys Palmer delivered a great ball. Barry Villa couldn't clear the ball quickly enough and 'Eggy' pounced on the loose ball and found the back of the net.
The Castle were back on level terms.
Some good football was being played by Villa and some schoolboy errors from the Castle defence took the score to 2-1 to Barry Villa.
So once again the Castle defence had to show some resolve and hard work, and when the Villa striker broke free and hit a fine shot, man of the match Josh 'the Monk' Davies pulled off a great save that would have been at home on Match of the Day.
The Castle woke up and just before half time a great ball from Tom Schembri found Rhys Palmer who finished coolly to make it 2-2 at half time.
The managers Craig and Degsy were forced to make two changes for the second half, Ash 'the enforcer' Cove had come through 45 minutes but couldn't carry on and Casey 'Twinkle Toes' Thompson had pulled his hamstring.
This meant that Lightning Jake Oaten and new boy Lee Marshall started the second half, and straight away the two subs were right in the heart of the action.
Lee Marshall was showing his class in the centre of midfield and Barry Villa found it hard to deal with the pace of Lightning Jake Oaten. With some great work Jake broke through and shot wide.
Then 15 minutes in to the half Sion Old came off with a tight hamstring and on went young gun Ben Fenn, who was straight into the action.
A great run from Ben Fenn earned the Castle a corner. Jordan Woody Gill stepped up to take the corner and found the back of the net from the corner flag with a great strike to make it 3-2 to the Castle.
By now Castle were in the driving seat. Rhys Palmer, Chris 'Eggy' Scott and Jake were causing the Villa defence all kinds of problems.
During the last 15minutes of the game the Villa started to press the Castle back and once again the Villa striker hit a great shot, but again the ever impressive Josh Davies saved the goal.
The Castle defended as a team and worked hard for each other, holding on to gain all 3 points.
The Castle would like to thank Barry Villa for a great game of football and wish them all the best for the rest of the season.
They would also like to thank the Castle Pub for great after match food and drink.
