Barry RFC's traditional Boxing Day match is a muddy affair!

WITH Barry RFC 1st XV only managing to play two cup games during the last two months – thanks to autumn internationals, flu bugs and inclement weather – the traditional Boxing Day encounter saw the cobwebs blown away when the Under 30s team took on the Over 30s.

The lashings of rain on Christmas night not only thawed the pitch, but also left it sodden enough for both the teams and the ground to resemble The Somme after the 80 minutes of play.

All the scores came in the first half, with the Under 30s scoring twice and the Over 30s replying with a fine try by Grantley Harris.

Conditions, alcohol and the after-effects of Christmas turkey dinners did their bit to scupper most attempts to move the ball, but with this being a light-hearted but still-with-an-edge encounter, it made little difference to the enjoyment League games are due to resume, unless the weather has a say in the matter, on Saturday, January 2, with an away fixture at Canton.

Kick off is at the usual 2.30pm.
