Nine-try Barry keep up their winning ways!

BARRY 59 DINAS POWYS 3

ON A glorious sunny Saturday, Dinas Powys were the visitors to the Reservoir Field.

Barry were able to feature Gill after injury and introduce newcomer Nathan Jones.

Playing up-hill against a strong wind, Barry were quickly behind to a well-taken penalty. However, they soon took the lead when O'Sullivan forced himself through a mêlée of bodies to score.

The game was settling down to a contest between a fine Dinas Powys outside half, who was kicking intelligently and using the conditions to good effect, and a Barry side who were trying to ensure that he was having to operate with meagre scraps, whilst creating their own opportunities.

Following a strong run, the second try was scored by Taylor and converted by Cummings.

The third try came as a result of good line-out possession exploited by Cummings, who added the points, whilst the fourth try by Evans was just reward for some imaginative play involving nearly all the backs.

This first period showed the result of hard work and self-belief in both coaches and players, with good tackling, accurate passing and backing-up being prominent features of Barry play.

Even three tries early in the second half by Brown, O'Sullivan and J.Jones, two converted by Cummings, were scant reward for the quality and quantity of possession being secured by the Barry pack.

Almost as a reaction and lasting for 20 or so minutes, the game lost all continuity and direction. It was left to the arrival of substitutes to banish the malaise.

With the visitors now reduced to 13 men due to a lack of reserves and a red card, Barry scored two more converted tries by Brown and Lee to make the final score 59-3 to the home team.

This game, its scoreline and the league tables, show how Barry are developing a side which can not only score tries from many positions, but more importantly can put up very strong defensive lines to prevent the opposition scoring.
