Thomas Carroll Vale Midweek Cricket League

THE THOMAS Carroll Vale of Glamorgan Midweek Cricket League 2008 champions Barry Internationals are in no mood to relinquish their title after two crushing wins recently.

Against Dinas Powys, Internationals scored 183 for 9, Saleh (65) and Veruna (69) adding 142 for the opening wicket. J.Smith did his best to stem the flow of the run tide returning 3 for 20.

Only Dani Zaman offered any resistance with 31 as Veruna completed a fine day with season's best figures of 5 for 5 as Dinas slumped to 73 all out.

Next on the list were Tynewydd Inn Strollers whose under-strength team felt the full force of the Internationals batting power.

In scoring 205 for 2, the Internationals had posted the highest team score of the season. Saleh (91 not out) completed a third 50 of the season while new signing Abid smashed a rapid 49. Only Steve Oram 23 and Dave Goodway with 22 prevented the Internationals from an even bigger win as the Strollers were bowled out for 79, Masqood returning 3 for 9.

Pentyrch, if they can rearrange, play and win their games in hand will also pose a threat to Lisvane's title aspirations.

In the north Cardiff derby, they defeated Creigiau by 5 wickets. Batting first Creigiau scored a decent 138 for 5 with Martin Powell scoring 48. D.Dobson returned 2 for 16 for Tyrch. Led once again by Dan Coomber's unbeaten 63, the visitors made it home with 5 balls to spare.

Leaders Lisvane travelled to Fontygary and won by 35 runs. Stan Whitcombe (41) and Greg Edwards led the way in a total of 144 for 9, while N.Jones' efforts with the ball brought him the splendid figures of 4 for 24.

Jones also top-scored for Fonty with 18 as their reply ended on 109 for 8, Rob Bowen returning 2 for 14 and Luke Jones 2 for 22.

Lastly to Cogan where an excellent game played on a hot and humid evening was thoroughly enjoyed by Cavaliers and Chiefs alike.

Cogan won the toss and batted scoring 149 for 6 with Huw Smith scoring 44 and Ross Toshack 45.

The Cavaliers' efforts proved to be in vain as shrewd Cogan field placement stopped the boundaries. Cogan took some excellent catches and their ground fielding meant that the Cavs batsmen were having to run a lot of 1's and 2's in very tiring conditions.

Skipper Lee Williams' outstanding effort was the pick of the catches, with the skipper responding to a hard flashing drive through mid off by back-pedalling and leaping like the proverbial salmon to pouch the catch!

Jonathan Cheal 24, Neal Pritchard, Mark Bush and Rhys Davies did their best but it wasn't quite good enough as Cogan ran out winners by 39 runs.

Cogan's best bowlers were Andrew Charles 3 for 24 and Geraint Evans 3 for 20. The Cavaliers would also like to express their thanks to the Chiefs for the post-match refreshments.

No results were reported for the matches involving Dinas Powys and Barry Wanderers or Barry Athletic and West End.
