SULLY Spartans Cricket Club started off their tour on Tuesday, June 30, with an emphatic seven wicket win against Kinson Suttoners.
Suttoners won the toss and elected to bat. At 111 for no wicket the Spartans looked in trouble, but a run out by Morgan and tight bowling by Sam German halted the onslaught.
To finish, Morgan 2 for 11 off four overs and Holton 1 for 16 off four overs restricted the Suttoners to 124 after the allotted 24 overs.
In response Garcia and N Arnold saw off the opening bowlers allowing D Morgan 33 not out and J Arnold 31 to see the Spartans close to the finishing line, with J George hitting a quick fire 12 not out when J Arnold was bowled to win the match.
Suttoners 124 for 5: D Morgan 2 for 11, S Holton 1 for 16.
Sully Spartans 125 for 3: D Morgan 33 not out, J Arnold 31, J George 12 not out.
AFTER Tuesday's excellent performance the Spartans went into the game on Wednesday, July 1, against Hinton Admiral in high spirits, and on a very small picturesque ground a total of 238 was not out of reach.
Pick of the bowlers were A Garcia 1 for 29, D Morgan also 1 for 29, but the star performance game from A Hill 2 for 30.
In reply the Spartans display was woeful with 4 ducks and only D Morgan, 44 not out including seven fours, troubling the scorers. The Spartans were all out for a dismal 96, with D Morgan left high and dry.
Hinton Admiral 238 for 6: A Hill 2 for 30, A Garcia 1 for 29, D Morgan 1 for 29.
Spartans 96 all out: D Morgan 44 not out.
ON Thursday, July 2, Spartans finished off their three-match tour of Poole with a game lost in the last over of a 30 over game Batting first, openers Terry Sylvester (18) and S Holton (43) did their best against an excellent opening attack from Milford-on-Sea, but the slow start of 50 from 15 overs, put extreme pressure on the incoming batsmen and only M Wood and D Morgan reached double figures as everyone tried to hit bat to bowl in any way they could.
As it turned out an extra few runs at the start would have been enough as D Hopkins with only 12 from his five overs, J George 16 from his five overs kept Milford in check. D Morgan 1 for 22 and J Arnold 1 for 23 continued the containment, but the last pair of Spartans bowlers were hit around the park.
Sully Spartans 144 for 8: S Holton 43, M Wood 28, T Sylvester 18, D Morgan 12.
Milford-on-Sea 144 for 5: D Morgan 1 for 22, J Arnold 1 for 23.
