THE sun shone on over 800 young footballers on Saturday, June 20, at the Sully Football Festival!
Teams from the Vale, Cardiff and Bridgend took part in a mini-football fun day with ages from U11s down to U7s, including Cardiff City ACC teams who also participated once again – a big attraction.
There were several teams new to the Festival this year, making up one of the largest events ever held by Sully with over 75 teams participating.
The football was played in great spirit, with players, parents and managers alike ensuring that fun and football were the winners on the day!
As well as the football, visitors enjoyed bouncy castles and stalls including the popular gladiator ring, crossbar challenge, coconut shy and even some visiting tortoises – courtesy of Anne and Ellie from the South Road Tortoise Sanctuary!
Penarth Gymnastics Team put on a great show in the afternoon and Y-Dance drew the crowd with their street dancing – displaying true professionalism when the sound system stopped working briefly part way through!
Schools in Tanzania were also helped by donations to the stall run by Nikki Avery, and the club made a donation of more Club football shirts.
The winner of the raffle, who won a pair of signed Joe Calzaghe boxing gloves, was Mrs Annette Morgan. All money raised on the day will be going towards winter training facilities next year.
Thanks go to the BP Sports Club in Sully where the setting was blessed with decent weather, and the Football Club would like to thank all the Coaches, parents, helpers and sponsors, who made the event possible – including Grab-It, Centrica, Morgan Signs, Cabot Carbon, Geoturf, Velosward Builders, Classic Sports, Anthony’s Bouncy Castles, Lift Services Ltd, Falcon Fitness, Geldards Solicitors, Charles M. Willie & Co. Shipping Ltd. – and also the staff at the BP Sports Club who kept everyone fed and watered throughout the day.
Sully Club managers and parents also helped in the weeks prior to the Festival preparing the pitches, organising raffles and the stalls.
Tony Scrivens, club mini-chairman, said: “It was a great team effort and one that all who took part in can be proud of!”
