Mackintosh Maestros show their class

MACKINTOSH Maestros cricket team, the midweek arm of the Maestros/Spartans consortium, travelled to Heath Park in Cardiff on Thursday evening to take on Llanishen High School in a 20-over match.

Maestros captain Sam German lost the toss but was invited to bat and this turned out to be lucky as Rhett Jones and Ethan Fiddler added 91 for the second wicket to put the Maestros firmly in control.

Terry Sylvester had earlier retired in bizarre circumstances - a young lady with a child had encroached onto the field of play, bewailing the fact that her car was locked in by Terry's Jaguar.

Following the dismissal of Jones for this third 50 in as many matches, debutante Marise entered the fray and attacked the bowling, racing to 33 not out.

Meanwhile young Fiddler obtained a career best of 41, and a not out from Jaias helped the Maestros to an imposing 156 for 2 wickets after 20 overs.

Llanishen's reply was disastrous, Arun, Maestros third Indian star, clean bowling Rob Wilson with the first ball of the innings.

The school failed to recover from this, and apart from M Labbatt who bravely carried his bat through the innings for 24 not out their innings subsided to 83 for eight wickets giving the Maestros victory by the impressive margin of 73 runs.

Maestros: 156 for 2. Jones 50, Fiddler 41, Marise 33 not out.

Llanishen: 83 for 8. Labbatt 24 not out, Jones 2 for 10, Marise 2-12.
