A SUPERLATIVE goal from manager/substitute Steve Ackerman, paved the way for an excellent victory over the much fancied Airport 2nds.

Sansome fed the ball forward to the left from where Ackerman gathered to pass inside to Ingham to his right. Ingham returned the ball from where, a good 25yds out, Ackerman let loose with a quality curving blast to give former CB 'keeper, Walters, no hope of preventing the shot from bulging the top right hand corner of the net.

And despite the conceding of an equalizer just three minutes later in the 73rd minute, it was enough to give CB the belief that they had the capability to push on for a win.

With Airport fielding a scattering of Alliance League experienced players and Cadoxton Barry, although without striking pair of Yeoman and Jenkinson, also sporting their last two faithful players from their own Alliance League days, this promised to be the close encounter that it eventually turned out to be.

The early stages pretty much saw the two sides cancelling each other out, the Flyers earning the most corners while the hosts created the better chances. Having said that, Airport looked odds on to score in a one on one with 'keeper Kinch before Walsh arrived from nowhere with a quality goal saving tackle.

The second half started with Kirk on for Harvey who had domestic calls. But having used the sub, Kinch, in the CB goal, bravely soldiered on with a groin injury so that Ackerman could come on for Rowlands.

And Kinch's bravery paid dividends as Ackerman scored that aforementioned goal. But, as said above, Airport responded briefly when, shortly after, they won a corner which Finley curled towards the far post from where Williams managed to force home off his thigh in the 73rd minute.

With their greater physicality, for a few moments it looked as though the visitors might press on for the win, the injured Kinch doing well to reach a corner, rising high to gather at the far post.

But the surge was short lived as CB seized an initiative which saw one side in extended control for the first time in what had previously been a very evenly contested encounter.

And the pressure deservedly paid off when the tireless Ingham beat Walters to a ball before circumnavigating him to tap into an empty net with just five minutes left. However, despite the fact that CB continued to press, Airport did have one last chance to snatch a point when they earned a free kick just a yard beyond the edge of the box.

However, though well taken, the shot sailed just a few feet over the bar to leave Cadoxton Barry, because of their late surge, just about deserved winners.

This latest win sees CB having played exactly half of their league fixtures just four weeks into a 37 week season and hoping for a couple of good cup runs to plump out the fixtures.

Or perhaps the powers that be could think up something so that all the member teams of the league don’t find themselves sitting around twiddling their thumbs after Christmas.

And with that thought in mind, Cadoxton Barry start the second half of their season at Bryn-Y-Don when they meet Tynewydd Inn for the return league fixture on Saturday having already played them at the Buttrills Fields in the opening game of the season.

That turned out to be an exciting 4-4 draw. Kick-off 2pm.

In the Year 9s section, hat tricks from Robertson and Harris supported by goals from Dawkins and Rose saw Cadoxton Barry record a comfortable win over their Dinas Powys counterparts.
