BARRY Community Tennis Club hosted its annual presentation evening at Barry Yacht Club last weekend.
The evening was attended by players and their families and commenced with a summary of the club’s achievements so far in 2018, starting with the award of Tennis Wales Community Venue of the year in January, and recently culminating in both the 8u and Ladies doubles teams finishing their summer seasons by narrowly missing out on the top position in their respective divisions in the South Wales leagues.
While the men’s team did not fare as well, the fact that all fixtures in summer 2018 were honoured is testament to the growth of the club in just over three years and the increasing depth of its player base.
Following a buffet enjoyed by over 80 guests, the main business of the evening, the presentation of the club championships trophies (sponsored by local business United Carpets) and various individual achievement awards, took place (full list of winners below).
Additionally, presentations were made to team captains and to the juniors who assist at sessions with younger players, as tennis leaders.
There was also a raffle, generously supported by a number of other local businesses (Annie & Lolo shop in High Street, Mount Bistro, YC Sports, Tesco Barry, and the club coaching provider Vale Tennis Academy), and the club is proud to be supporting and supported by the local community.
The club is running a coaching programme throughout the winter, with sessions for all ages and abilities, and will be represented in the South Wales Doubles League with a Ladies and a Mixed team.
