Cadoxton visited Barry Central in the Munro Cup and it ended in a very close finish, despite three winning rinks for the away side.

Going into the final end Cadoxton held a one shot lead. A winning single on three of the rinks and a losing single on the other saw them home.

Derek Jeffries had John Pap playing his first game as third opened up an 11-0 lead after 9 ends against opposing skip John Bergland.

The remainder of the game more competitive, with 9 further shots added with 8 against.

In a closer game Howard Craven held a narrow 7-5 advantage after 7 ends, but scored 10 against five to complete a good win.

The third success was completed by Don Kuhnell’s rink against Dave Goddard, another tight game with scores level on 5, 7 and 10. A ‘3’ on the next started a 4-end winning sequence to give the visitors an 18-10 advantage, which they held until the end.

Tom Goddard skipped the only successful rink for the home side against Steve Clarke’s rink, which was close to winning the aggregate.

Saturday 11 August 2018: Cadoxton v Romilly ‘A’ – CML 4 (Home)

E Davies, A Ralphs, M Curtis, K Chedgzoy 12 – 14 B Motrom, P Herbert, B Parker, B Griffiths, J Stacey, I Robertson, J Davies, D Kuhnell, 5 – 22 E Fortt. L Jones, P Edwards, P Clarke, D Tuck, K Davies, J Papoutsou, D Jeffries18 – 7 P James, A Saviour, A Jones, J Kirk, G Solomon, A Prince, W Craven, H Craven 8 – 16 J Dacy, S Simpson, G Gough, D Bannister 43 – 59

Due to unfavourable conditions it was agreed to reduce the playing time of this CML game at Cadoxton. The wet conditions seemed to suit Romilly, the visitors, better than the hosts as the only good thing which came from it was an excellent win for the Derek Jeffries rink, with Dai Tuck and new bowler Keith Davies having superb games, to assist with this good win.

They were 9-1 up after 6 ends and only conceded shots on four more ends.

Don Kuhnell’s rink were met by a rink who revelled in the conditions, and although they managed to reach 4-4 after, 5ends, the remainder of the game was a case of keeping the score down rather than making a score.

Kelvin Chedgzoy did compete much better with his rink and were in front at 7-2 after 6 ends. However, 11 shots were conceded during the next five ends.

The difference was reduced to just 1 shot but was doubled on the final end. Howard Craven’s rink also had trouble with the conditions and fell 9-0 behind after 5 ends.

This proved too much to overcome although they were more in the game and scored 8 shots whilst conceding 7 more, during the remaining ends.
