WITH the second XI match falling victim to the rain, Sully Centurions 1st XI leapfrogged Creigiau to go back to the top of the division with this five-wicket victory against Machen at Burnham Avenue, in one of very matches to survive the weather.

The visitors batted first on a blustery afternoon and lost a wicket in the first over, when skipper Jake Griffett had Clive Fussell caught for a duck.

The score had moved on to 10 when Griffett struck again, having Jones caught for just 4. Wickets kept tumbling, with David Goodway (1 for 27) and Lloyd Bruce 2 for 25) getting wickets.

The run out of Griffiths left the score on 89 for 6 with 15 overs left. But a stubborn 44-run partnership for the 7th wicket between Smith and Jones gave Machen some hope.

However, only two more runs were added when the final wicket fell, meaning that Machen were all out for 135.

Sully's reply got off to a quick start and the score had already reached 36 in just the fifth over when Aron Emyr became Michael Fussell's first victim, being bowled for 10.

The same bowler claimed the prize wicket of Rhett Jones for 29 in the eleventh over and then bowled Callum Thomas for 12, with score on 72.

Dave Goodway and Harri Edwards took the score along to 100 before that man Fussell struck again, having Edwards trapped lbw for 14.

After Caddy took the wicket of Lloyd Bruce one run later, Goodway (31 not out) and Tom Edwards (18 not out) saw Centurions home without further loss, reaching the target in the 21st over.
