This advantage was improved upon during the remaining ends.

Howard Craven started well on his rink by taking a 10 -1 advantage after 7 ends.

However a disastrous spell produced two ‘4’s and a ‘2’ to take the lead away.

The final ten ends were shared 5 each, all singles accept for a ‘3’ for the home side, which decided the outcome.

Kelvin Chedgzoy also started with a 10-1 advantage, against opposing skip Godfrey Stone, but continued scoring regularly, with Emlyn Davies playing immaculately from the front, to build up a very convincing victory.

Derek Jeffries rink was 6-2 down after six ends, but five winning ends took them into a 9-6 advantage. The advantage progressed to 13 – 8 with four ends left.

Three losing singles brought the match to a tense last end which went in favour of the home side to complete a full house.

81 – 65

Cadoxton made the short trip to Romilly Park on a nice sunny day, to compete with Romilly in a CML 4 match.

The green was fast but very testing with brown and green patches affecting the pace.

This didn’t seem to give Kelvin Chedgzoy’s rink any trouble as they romped to an overwhelming success, against the rink skipped by Godfrey Stone. After 8 ends the advantage was 12 -1.

This supremacy continued throughout with just 4 more successful ends for the visitors, whilst the shots against piled up.

Don Kuhnell also skipped his rink to a win in a hard tussle against opposing skip and captain Dennis Mottram.

After five ends the score was tied 5-5.

After 12 ends the score was still tied at 12-12.

The home side then started to edge into the lead scoring four against two during the next four ends.

On the next end Don faced three shots down and played two weighted bowls the first was good but still one shot down.

The second was fortunate and produced a five which eventually settled the result in their favour. Derek Jeffries rink had a see-saw battle on his rink.

They were 4 shots down after two ends, but by the eighth they were in front 9-4.three ends later they were 11-9 down.

From then on they were fighting to keep in touch, and dropped to 14-18 behind with two ends remaining.

A single was followed by a superb ‘4’ on the last end to draw level.

Howard Craven’s rink was just one shot down after 6 ends, but six shots in the next three ends, opened a gap and although the remaining ends were won alternately the gap was never closed.

54 – 75

Cadoxton visited Barry Athletic on another sunny evening, for this Munro Cup fixture and found a great difference in the pace from their home green.

The conclusion was a comfortable win for the home side.

Derek Jeffries skipped the only successful rink against opposing Skip Gerry Whittaker, and included two past Cadoxton members.

They started well with a seven shot lead after just three ends. Winning ends continued, after conceding a ‘3’ on the 4th end, until with the score reached 14-3 after 8 ends.

A ‘4’ was conceded but recovered over the following three ends.

In the remaining ends two further singles were added, whilst seven reduced the advantage.

Don Kuhnell had Tim Morgan as his opposing skip and held the lead for most of the game, until the thirteenth end the home side drew level at 13 -13.

They scored a ‘6’ to open up a gap which could not be closed.

Howard Craven met ex-Cadoxton player John Jones as opposing skip, and at the halfway stage there was nothing in it with the score of 5-6.

However only five further shots were added to the visitors score whilst twelve scored against. On the fourth rink Kelvin Chedgzoy came up against yet another past Cadoxton player, Carl Best as his opposing number.

The home side led 7-0 after three ends.

Of the remaining 15 end the visitors were successful in eight but all singles, whilst the home team’s seven successes were mainly twos.

Saturday 30 June 2018

Cadoxton v Blaenrhondda – CML 4 (Away)

Cadoxton made the long trip to Blaenrhondda, on a very hot day, and were confronted with a very fast surface to play on, a big difference from their home green.

To make matters worse one of their team dropped out just before they left.

The rink skipped by Kelvin Chedgzoy had the unfortunate task of playing short.

Nevertheless they took a 4shot lead after two ends, and after 7 ends only trailed by one shot. A ‘4’ on the 10th kept the deficit to one, and still one after13 ends, but on the next two seven shots were scored against, from which they failed to recover.

New bowler Dave Sluman, playing his first game, was included on Derek Jeffries rink, and they opened a 6-4 advantage on the first four ends but a drastic four ends produced 14 shots for the hosts.

The last ends which were shared 4 each plus one no score, included 5 shots for and 12against.

Don Kuhnell skipped his rink to a 5-2 lead after 6 ends.

However the heat affected his play, and the homes side took over the scoring to win comfortably.

Howard Craven did attain some esteem with his rink’s performance.

They held the supremacy throughout the game except for a one deficit on the 4th and 14th ends.

To gain a very acceptable two points in a difficult game
