SULLY Sports Men’s Bowls Club hosted fierce rivals Romilly on Wed 13th Jun, in the Munro Cup, and despite lacking several senior players, and it was Romilly who proved their class to take a 15 shot aggregate victory, and 3-1 rink win.

The contest played in a very good spirit, the scores close throughout on all 4 rinks, and with 4 ends remaining the Sports led by 3 shots on 1 rink (C Coomber) and Romilly led by 4 shots on each of the other 3 rinks.

The final ends were crucial and the visitors finished strongly to clinch a deserved victory overall by 68-53.

P Holland, D Burbridge, G Brown, A Middleton 12-22;

Last Saturday, the Sports hosted Whitchurch Hospital in the PG1s, with both teams winning on 2 rinks, but the Sports took the aggregate 83-75, to win by 8 shots.

Lee Romans’ rink led 14-9 after 14 ends, but a tremendous final 7 ends saw the visitors surge to a 26-18 win.

Rob Matthews’ rink initially had a real tussle, with the scores close for 13 ends, when it stood even at 11-11, but the home rink finished very strongly winning 6 of the last 8 ends, to win by 9 shots (22-13).

G Browns’ rink went off like a rocket only to fizzle out after 6 ends, when they were 12-3 up, losing 12 of the remaining 15 ends, albeit on at least 4 occasions to an extremely lucky, or very good, final wood by the visiting skip, and eventually lost by 7 shots (15-22).

K Romans’ rink put on a terrific display, and after losing the 1st 3 ends, then conceding 5 shots on the 6th and 2 on the 7th to be 11-4 down, they proceeded to only concede on 3 shots in the remaining 14 ends and rattled up 24 shots of their own to run out 28-14 winners, and thus secure the overall aggregate for the match.

Rink Scores:

M Morgan, A Thompson, C Spillane, L Romans 18-26;
