THE exceptional weather continues and playing golf is the place to be. The course at Wenvoe Castle is simply a delight to walk and even if the game may be slightly ‘rough’ a stroll in the sun is a real tonic.

An excellent turnout for the Mixed competition on the recent bank holiday saw a very close result with Karen Ball and Cliff White winning the Betty and Harry Broadbent Trophy by the narrowest of margins. The posted the winning score of 39 points to just beat Jayne and Huw Smith also on 39 points but missing out on count back.

Club vice captain Lesley Sherrard thanked all the members for supporting the competition all played in a very enjoyable and sporting atmosphere extended to a meal and a drink on the magnificent setting of the patio overlooking the course.

The Men’s competitions are well under way and Gary Butt played exceptionally well to win the Renwick Seniors trophy with 42 points. Commiserations for the runner up Jeff Hudd who also played well to score 43 points but narrowly missed out on countback.

Played on the same day was the aptly named Youngers Stableford which was won by low handicapper Paul Wheatley playing better than scratch to accumulate 41 points just ahead of Richard Harries with another good score of 40 points.

The recent Seniors Stableford was won by Alan Hancock with 38 points just seeing off the challenge of Tom Marples with 37 points.

The Ladies have the opportunity to play 9 hole stableford competitions over the back nine holes and recently Caroline Holland posted a winning score of 17 points with Caroline Davies in second place.

Club membership is available for players of all categories and and opportunity to enjoy competitive or social golf.
