WITH Sully Centurions’ 1st XI fixture at Machen falling victim to the weather, the 2nd XI took centre stage with a six-wicket victory at home to Machen 2nd XI.

After winning the toss and inviting the visitors to bat, Centurions started as they meant to go on, with some tight bowling that kept the batsmen pegged back.

They were finding it increasingly difficult to get runs on the board.

However, the Sully bowlers, although bowling an accurate lime, found it difficult to get wickets, as both Nigel Hicks (49) and Clive Fussell (17) dug in with a determination that ultimately frustrated the home attack.

Only four wickets were taken as the Machen batsmen managed to bat through the overs for a total of just 93. Harish, with 2 for 16, was the pick of the home bowlers.

In reply, after losing the early wicket of Jason Hicks with the score on 32, Russell Thomas (44 not out) and Nick Jones, who hit 27, steered Centurions to the target in just 16 overs. A convincing victory that was marred by taking only 2 bowling points.

For the visitors, Robin Jones, with 3 for 37, was the best of the bowling attack. Centurions have now won three out of their four opening fixtures and are well set for a successful season.
