ANOTHER glorious Balearic Saturday enticed 160 runners to Barry Island for the 156th, free, 5k event.

Saturday was slightly unusual in that parkruns across Wales had been asked to provide short video clips for the FFit Cymru televised series, and Barry was no exception with runners getting involved before, during and after their runs.

By the time this hits the press, the programme will have aired on S4C and should be available on catch-up services.

No fewer than 34 runners celebrated PB's this week, with Martyn Driscoll being not only first to record a PB on the day but also first across the finish line.

Joining him in PB territory was Richie Williams, clocking in at 21:02.

Keeping it in the family, Richie's daughter, Caitlin equalled her PB of 22:30 and was first lady to finish.

Not to be outdone, 2nd, 3rd and 4th ladies – Rebecca George, Harriet Kehl and Aimee Scott –

also posted new PBs.

On the milestone front, Henry Davies completed his 50th, qualifying for the Red 50 shirt and Martyn Parsons and Nicola John both notched up their respective 150th runs.

Martyn's run today also happened to be his 4th parkrun anniversary, having taken part in his first run at Cardiff on 17th May 2014.

Run director, Dave Shields said "Again my job was made simple by the expert help provided by all of the volunteer team today. I'd like to thank the following for giving up their time, ensuring we could put the event on: Denise Aplin, Ted Arbuthnot, Christopher Barnsley, Hilary Bugler, Amber Condy, Vanya Constant, Nicola Davies, John Deakin, Lyn Evans, Rob Gardiner, Michelle Green, Nicola Hardy, Richard Jackson, Hilary James, Lisa James, Rhian Lees, Gaynor Loveless, Lynette Mcnabb, Tamzin Rose, Hugh Smith and Richard Street.

"I owe a special thanks to Rhian Lees whom I'd mistakenly put on the roster a month early and who'd been anticipating a lie in this morning!"

This coming Bank Holiday weekend, we have a rather special morning as members of Seriously Mad Runners (Barry) are performing a club take-over and are also taking on 'odd minute' pacing roles.

This means it's an ideal opportunity to chase a new parkrun PB and we hope to see you, amongst a sea of purple and green, on the 26th!

parkrun is a free, weekly 5k timed run and is open to anyone of any ability from age 4 upwards - runners, joggers or walkers alike.

It starts at 9am every Saturday morning on the promenade. The start location can vary, depending on what’s happening on the prom.
