SUNDAY saw the Brian Whitehouse Cup contested over a sunny Brynhill Golf Club, a stableford format competition where, unlike strokeplay, the odd bad shot doesn’t ruin your entire round.

Three players tied on 42 points (equivalent of 6 under handicap) with Rhys Connell nicking it on the count back, from Paul Clarke and Lewis Miller.

Surely a three-shot slashing from Butcher Giles must be in order.

On Friday the eagerly anticipated local derby with Wenvoe 1st team took place, with Brynhill having home advantage.

However, with most of the Wenvoe boys being former Brynhill members it is hard to see how much of an advantage home turf actually was.

Brynhill ran out deserved winners with their top pairing Kyron O’Sullivan and Calvin O’Carroll absolutely slaughtering Adams and Mullooly 5 and 4, while Scotty Warne and his diminutive partner Jamie Griffiths handed out a similar tanking to James and Davies with their match finishing 3 and 1.

It was only the sterling efforts of Wenvoe’s Backspin Bond and Mathew Gill that prevented a complete whitewash as they beat Brynhill’s least experienced pair of Little and Preston 3 and 2.

A big thank you to the members who turned out to offer support and hope to see you all at the return fixture.
