AFTER a weekend washout in North Wales, Barry Town United can finally secure their spot in the JD Welsh Premier League’s European play-offs this Sunday afternoon.

And they can do it on home turf, as Gavin Chesterfield’s men welcome their nearest rivals Newtown to Jenner Park (3.30pm kick-off).

A draw or better at Prestatyn on Saturday would have put Barry’s points tally beyond the Robins’ reach, yet the late postponement at Bastion Gardens means all remains to play for this weekend.

With the Sgorio cameras in town once again, manager Chesterfield is expected to have a full squad of players to choose from, with leading goalscorer Kayne McLaggon poised to return, after the hometown forward missed several games and the recent Wales vs England C international through injury.

McLaggon was part of the Barry party that made the long trip to Prestatyn Town, only to find the surface at Bastion Gardens unplayable; with the official calling the game off around 1.30pm on Saturday, as travelling supporters were arriving.

With their plagued fixture having already been nixed twice this season, Prestatyn and Barry will have to try once again on Tuesday, 24 April (7.45pm), three days after the Jenner Park outfit are at Llandudno.

With a Friday night finale against Carmarthen Town to wrap up the regular season, the challenge of three JD Welsh Premier League fixtures in less than a week could be a particularly demanding one.

However, a point or more against the Robins this Sunday would ensure Barry’s qualification for the play-offs, providing Chesterfield with the option of giving his less-experienced players some game time, across the closing week.

Admission for Sunday’s JD Welsh Premier League Play-Off Conference clash between Barry Town United and Newtown is £7 (adults), £5 (senior citizens/students) and £3 (children) at the turnstiles.
