THE Barry Yacht Club's Sea Rowing section has had an overwhelming response to last week's article in the Barry and District News asking for new members to join the club.

Last Friday's meeting was attended by more than 30 people, both male and female and covering a wide range of age groups.

The presentation, led by rowing captain Tony Peters, was supported by a number of experienced rowers who were also able to answer questions throughout the evening.

Current members discussed the fun aspects and fitness benefits of rowing Celtic long boats, and talked about the opportunities to row in the Bristol Channel and at competitive league events around the Welsh coast.

The club were encouraged by the number of people showing a serious interest in trial rows, and over the next few weeks they will be arranging dates and times for these to take place. These will be both tide and weather dependent, and will take place in either the channel or in the dock.

Despite the weather, one family were so enthused at the prospect that they returned early on Sunday morning to row for the first time.

If you missed the feature in last week's paper, there are still chance to get involved with the club. For more information, contact rowing captain and Welsh Sea Rowing safety officer Tony Peters on 07828 057381.
