BARRY Town Ladies continued their good form in the round robin stage of the Alun Evans League Cup on Sunday, January 21, with an impressive 7-1 victory over Cwmbran Celtic.

With the weather affecting most games across South Wales at the weekend, Barry, playing at the House of Sport indoor dome at Leckwith, put in a strong performance to brush aside their Women's Welsh League opponents to make it four wins from five matches in the group stages.

Despite Barry starting strongly it was the visitors who took the lead, with a fine finish rounding off their first attack of the match to put Cwmbran in front. To their credit, Barry kept their composure and were soon back on level terms with in-form midfielder Becca Jones scoring to make it 1-1.

Abi Smyth then put Barry in front with what proved to be her first of several goals that afternoon, as the hosts entered the break with a 2-1 lead.

The home side continued to make most of the running and Barry soon extended their lead, youngster Bethan O'Donnell scoring a sublime goal to give Barry a two goal cushion.

By now utterly dominant, Barry put the tie out of sight with further goals coming from Emily Mortimore, Jones adding her second with a free-kick and two more from Smyth to give her her first hat-trick for the club.

The Ladies next fixture is on February, 4 when they return to league action as they take on Aberystwyth.
