BARRY RFC returned to winning ways this weekend, claiming a 19-16 win over visitors Llanishen with virtually the last kick of the game.

Barry were able to put the visitors under pressure early on after a yellow card for repeated infringements saw Llanishen temporarily reduced to 14 men, but it was Llanishen who opened the scoring thanks to a well struck penalty from full-back Sam Williams.

The hosts hit back however and with Llanishen continuing to be penalised for sloppy errors, the reliable boot of Kyle Baross dispatched two penalties before the break to give Barry the lead.

In an end-to-end start to the second half, it was again Barry who took their chances and extended their lead through a Tom Perry try after being set up by Einan Scott.

Baross duly converted to give the hosts a 10 point lead, but it was not long before Llanishen reduced the deficit to a single score once more, Sam Williams kicking another successful penalty for the visitors.

With their confidence restored, Llanishen's perseverance was rewarded with a try of their own, with the forwards driving over the line following a lineout in the home 22. Williams' conversion levelled the scores at 13 apiece.

Barry's overeagerness to restore their lead proved to be their downfall, and minutes later they too were reduced to 14 men when Jamie Oaten collected a yellow card. Williams kicked the resultant penalty to put the visitors in front.

Baross levelled the scores fifteen minutes from time from another penalty, preceding missed chances for both sides in the final quarter of an hour.

A draw seemed inevitable when Baross missed a further kick by the narrowest of margins with barely a minute to go, but he was gifted a second chance moments later when the visitors were penalised for offside on the edge of their own 22.

Making no mistake a second time around, Baross' kick confirmed victory for Barry by the narrowest of margins, with the final score ending 19-16.

Barry's next league game takes place on Saturday, December 16 at home to Llantwit Fadre in a 2.30pm kick-off.

This week's lottery numbers of 6, 11, 21, 24 were not matched, meaning the prize fund increases to £7,750.
