CADOXTON Barry claimed a valuable 3-0 win last weekend as they put Whitchurch to the sword.

The early minutes saw Whitchurch piling on the pressure, as a misjudged Weekley clearance gifted the visitors an early chance, but Stringer was alert to the danger and came forward to gather confidently.

CB continued to ride their luck a little as Weekley had to make two further clearances from close to the line.

Eventually CB began to go forward with Oaten causing all sorts of panic, making surging runs down both the left and right wings.

And it was Oaten who grabbed the opening goal. A long cross found Sansome out on the right and his cushioned header was measured perfectly for Oaten to run onto, smashing home from the middle of the box with five minutes left before half-time.

As in the first half, Whitchurch pressed during the early minutes of the second, a curling diagonal ball in from the right seeing the connecting header go only just wide. But again Cadoxton Barry slowly played their way into contention.

A Sansome free-kick was floated narrowly over the bar for the hosts, but CB's second goal wasn't long in the waiting as, just five minutes on they doubled their lead.

Oaten floated a ball over to Jackhontaw who had the space to make a fine trap and fire in rapid succession to put Cadoxton Barry 2-0 in front on the hour mark.

And by the 65th minute they made the game safe, as Oaten's battling in the middle of the park won him the ball before feeding in Sansome on the overlap. He cut in as the angle grew tighter, but he still had enough room to stroke the ball in at the near post.

Whitchurch pressed strongly for the remaining time but without creating any clear cut chances. The CB back line of Adamson, Constant, Walsh, Powell, substitute Liam Jones and 'keeper Stringer all held firm as the visitors looked to grab a late consolation.

Meanwhile, in Division Two of the Vale of Glamorgan League, Cadoxton Barry II dropped two points to a last minute goal from BRT.

CB's goal came in the 20th minute when veteran captain Ackerman chested the ball down before embarking on a charge down the left. Fending off three challenges, his cross found Yeoman perfectly placed to drive home into the bottom left of the net from within the box.

BRT defended well in depth for the remainder of the game, and snatched a well-earned point through a free-kick late on.

The result could prove crucial in the battle for the title, as Llantwit Major Reserves look unlikely to drop too many points between now and the season’s end.

Next Saturday, Cadoxton Barry take to the road when they play Penrhiwceiber Cons in a Highadmit South Wales Alliance League Division One match. Kick off time is 2pm.
