YMCA Barry's female gymnasts have had a successful few weeks to remember, adding a host of new accolades to add to their achievements this year.

In the annual South Central Wales Level Six and Five Championships, as well as the Level Six eight-year-olds competition section, YMCA Barry demonstrated their excellent squad depth and gymnastic skill.

Emmy Saddler gained third place on bars and placed fourth overall, while Rosie Bishop became the vault champion and finished third overall.

The eight-year-old team of Ruby Clark, Melissa Cookson, Casey Moores, Emmy Saddler and Rosie Bishop became the 2017 Team Champions, and in one of their first competitions Seren Doel, Stacie White, Roxy Frost and Yazmin Michael showed great maturity in the 9-11 years category to add to their competition experience.

In the Level Five nine-year-old category, Hana Davies swept the board as she claimed second place on floor and won the vault, bars and beam categories to become overall champion, beating the opposition by over four clear marks.

In the 12 years and over category, Bria Karim became the vault champion finishing fifth overall, while the team of Bria Karim, Ruby Karim and Chloe Gabb performed beautifully to win the bronze team medal.

Due to the successes of Emmy Saddler, Rosie Bishop, Hana Davies and Bria Karim, they all gained places in the Welsh Finals representing South Central Wales.

Unfortunately, Hana Davies was unable to compete that weekend, however Bria finished second on vault helping the team to second place. Emmy Saddler showed great courage by competing with an ankle injury to help her team and even managed to come fourth on bars, while Rosie Bishop shared fourth place with Emmy on bars as well as finishing fourth on vault.

As a very busy gymnastics club competing in a variety of levels, the club also had six girls trialling for the Welsh Development Squad, aimed at girls aged between seven and nine. These were: Millie Williams, Rosie Bishop, Emmy Saddler, Nia Beasley, Azaria Karim and Lottie Cummins.

Having six gymnasts at this high level is a fantastic achievement for the club, with only 64 gymnasts in the whole of Wales taking part in the trials. YMCA Barry are delighted to announce that Millie Williams and Azaria Karim retained their places in the prestigious squad.

The YMCA Barry gymnasts will now be working towards their last competitions of the year over the next few weeks.
