Ynyshir Albions 3 - 2 Cadoxton Barry F.C.

Sansome (pen), Donnelly

CADOXTON Barry players would have noted that there were few recognisable faces left from the side that won Ynyshir promotion to the Highadmit South Wales Alliance League Premier Division at the end of last season, following their 3-2 defeat last weekend.

Much of this new Ynyshir side was assembled from last season's Welsh League Division Two Porth side. Also included, however, was a former Cambrian and Clydach player from Division One of the Welsh League.

The opening exchanges were fairly even but, as time went on, Cadoxton Barry found themselves increasing pushed back into their own territory.

Fifteen minutes in, the first goal started with a throw in on the right, the receiver curling over a long diagonal ball towards the far left from where the winger applied a simple stab to put the ball in the CB net.

And five minutes later, things went from bad to worse for Cadoxton Barry.

After failing to clear an Ynyshir free kick, the ball was returned into space on the far left. The defence didn't react quickly enough and this allowed the oncoming player the time to execute a quality finish with a low angled drive.

And sticking to the theme of a goal every five minutes, in the 25th the referee ruled that Adamson had pushed in the box, giving Ynyshir a spot-kick that was put away to widen the gap to three.

Cadoxton had their own penalty shout waved away minutes later, before Dawson planted a header wide from a corner as CB tried to claw their way back into the game.

But from there, CB were forced to soak up fairly continual pressure until the half time whistle, with Ynyshir looking a sure bet to continue in the same vein in the second half.

But with Sansome and Berry on for Weekley and Dawson from the restart, an early Oaten cross-cum-shot drifted just wide with the keeper well beaten, as Cadoxton Barry started strongly.

Then, fifty-four minutes in, CB earned a corner and as the ball came in the referee spotted some shirt pulling. He pointed to the spot and Sansome needed no second invitation to step up and dispatch the ball into the net with a confident low shot wide to the left of the 'keeper.

From there Cadoxton Barry became the more positive force, an Adamson free kick struck with power rebounding back to Sansome to bring a quality blocking save from the 'keeper, while Cleary also tested the Ynyshir shot-stopper shortly after.

Had the referee seen it, CB could have had another penalty as Donnelly was deliberately elbowed in an off-the-ball incident in the box.

It wasn't long however before a Sansome corner for CB was beautifully curled in towards the near post for Donnelly to rise and head home, making for an interesting final thirty minutes.

Jackhontaw replaced Cleary while CB continued to hold the upper hand - the anxieties of the home side being manifested by numerous requests to the referee for a time checks.

Ynyshir were, by now, largely restricted to hitting CB on the break and went close as a shot following a quick counter flew just wide for the home side.

However, CB continued to win a series of free kicks and corners which the hosts would have been glad to see repelled - many of them due to solid play from their excellent ex Cambrian and Clydach centre back. And, for what proved to be the final action of the game, 'keeper Stringer went forward for a CB free kick into the box. But the centre-back cleared yet again to see Ynyshir hang on to secure a place in the next round by the skin of their teeth.

Cadoxton Barry return to league action next Saturday when the visitors will be Trebanog. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
