BARRY Town United moved up to eighth in the JD Welsh Premier League, following a 3-1 win over Carmarthen Town at Jenner Park.

Birthday boy Kayne McLaggon struck twice in the Thursday night fixture, before Callum Sainty put the icing on the cake.

The visitors had come to the Vale of Glamorgan in high spirits, after their 4-0 victory at Bala Town on the weekend.

However, the Old Gold would prove to be no party poopers, as Barry recorded a second straight home win.

Emerging to the strains of Yma O Hyd, the hosts looked lively from the off, attacking the Gladstone Road end.

With 12 minutes played, McLaggon was in the net; the forward's momentum carrying him over at the back post, after a dangerous ball from Drew Fahiya on the left.

As it was though, Barry's breakthrough would be born on the right-hand side; Tyrrell Webbe flicking on Fahiya's pass for McLaggon to strike from six yards.

The home fans had hardly finished singing 'Happy Birthday' to the goalscorer when Carmarthen hauled themselves level, a mere two minutes later.

With chaos reigning in the Barry penalty area, Jordan Knott fired through the crowd and his effort beat an unsighted Mike Lewis to equalise.

While winger Kostya Georgievsky would look a real threat for the visitors, it was the hosts though that caused the bulk of the problems.

Their efforts were then rewarded in the 35th minute, as McLaggon snared his second of the night and fourth of the season so far.

Starting the move himself with a forward run, McLaggon released to Macauley Southam, who, on his home debut, did well to beat defender Daniel Sheehan.

Southam then crossed for an unmarked McLaggon to chest the ball home; the former Merthyr man showing strong positioning to restore Barry's advantage.

After the restart, both teams would have a crack at adding to their goal count, with Georgievsky and teammates denied by the rock-solid Lewis, who shrugged off injury at one stage to play on.

Fahiya, who had been one of the stars of the half, would also require treatment , making way for the promising Sam Jones on 69 minutes.

It was another substitute though who would have the final say, moments later.

After coming so close in Llandudno, Callum Sainty was all smiles after scoring Barry's third; the Town's #14 helping himself to his first JD Welsh Premier League goal.

On this occasion, McLaggon would turn provider; quickly spotting and setting up his teammate to score at the second attempt.

At 2-1, the Old Gold were always in with a shout, but Barry's third appeared a decisive blow; and so it would prove.

While Mark Aizlewood's team contributed to a good contest, the day would belong to Barry, to Sainty and McLaggon.
